ASCII art  n. The fine art of drawing diagrams using the ASCII character set (mainly |, -, /, \, and +). Also known as `character graphics' or `ASCII graphics'.

ASCII Art is a visual drawing consisting of standard keyboard characters arranged in a very careful and calculated layout. These are not images of any kind, rather standard numbers, letters and symbols on your keyboard. This type of artwork has been around since the beginning of the computer monitor. ASCII Art is often used in emails and other electronic forms of communication where images are not used regularly.
